IN THE COMMUNITY
GIVING BACK
El Dorado Search and Rescue’s deep commitment to serving our community goes beyond our primary mission of locating and rescuing lost or injured individuals. We believe in proactive community engagement and strive to be a valuable resource for local agencies and events.
During disaster events like wildfires, our team plays a crucial role in supporting relief efforts by:
Assisting by manning phone help lines to connect residents with vital resources
Providing hands-on support at evacuation centers for people and their displaced animals
Helping with recovery efforts as directed by the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, including extending our assistance beyond our immediate area when needed, such as during the Camp Fire that devastated Paradise in Butte County.
We believe in being a resource for our community in all times of need, demonstrating our commitment to service beyond the search.

We provide rescue and safety support for participants and spectators at a variety of events, including challenging endurance races and large public gatherings. Our services include essential first aid, reuniting separated parties, and ensuring overall safety and well-being. Examples of events we support include:
The Tevis Cup: This grueling 100-mile endurance horse race held annually on the Western States Trail in California. Riders and their horses must complete the challenging course within 24 hours, navigating rugged mountainous terrain and undergoing mandatory veterinary checks to ensure the horses' well-being.
The Rubicon Jeep Jamboree: As the "granddaddy" of Jeep Jamborees, this legendary multi-day off-road adventure is held annually on the challenging Rubicon Trail in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. Jeep owners navigate rugged terrain under the guidance of experienced trail leaders.
Local Community Events: We also provide on-site support for annual community events like the El Dorado County Fair, 4th of July Blast, Kids Expo, and Pony Express Ride. This includes establishing first aid stations and actively patrolling the event to assist those in need.
We provide valuable education and awareness about safety and preparedness at community outreach events, including:
National Night Out which is an annual nationwide community-building campaign to foster stronger relationships between neighbors and law enforcement. Communities organize events like block parties, cookouts, and meet-and-greets, allowing neighborhoods to come together and strengthen their ties while showing a united front against crime.
Gold Country Horse Day where members of our Animal Technical Rescue and Mounted Teams participate in the Equine Emergency Preparedness Clinic and demonstrations along with local organizations like The Halter Project, SCLAR, CVET, and Nevada County Sheriff's HEART Animal Rescue.
Hug-A-Tree and Survive where members of our team present and speak with schools about what to do and how to stay safe if they become lost outdoors, with the emphasis of staying in one place “hugging a tree” to make it easier for searchers to find them, staying calm, conserving energy, and making themselves visible to rescuers to signal for help.

Beyond these efforts, our highly visible presence in our bright orange uniforms serves as a reassuring sight for many in our community. Knowing that trained professionals are readily available to assist in emergencies provides peace of mind to residents and visitors alike. By actively engaging with our community, El Dorado Search and Rescue demonstrates our dedication to enhancing public safety and fostering a strong sense of community well-being.
More than just search and rescue, El Dorado Search and Rescue is a vital resource for our community. We provide critical support during disasters, ensure the safety of attendees at community events, and empower our residents and kids with essential safety training.
